ClearRemote Privacy Policy
Effective 12 October 2026. This policy covers the ClearRemote app for iPhone and iPad and the website clearremote.betheapp.com. It says exactly what the app sends, to whom, for how long it is kept, and how to use your rights. It matches the App Store privacy label; if one changes, both change together.
1. Who is responsible
The controller is BetheApp, the publisher of ClearRemote. For every privacy question or request write to clearremote@betheapp.com. We answer within 30 days at the latest.
2. The short version
- ClearRemote talks to your TV directly over your home Wi-Fi. The keys you press, the text you type for the TV and the list of your TVs go from your phone to your TV only. They are never sent to us.
- The app asks for one permission: access to your local network, to find and control your TV. It does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or notifications.
- There are no ads, no advertising identifier and no cross-app tracking. We do not sell data.
- We collect anonymous usage events and crash reports to fix problems. None of them contains what you type, the names of your TVs or their addresses.
- Signing in is optional and only with Apple. You can delete your account in the app at any time.
3. What stays on your device
Your saved TVs (the name, brand, model, network address and hardware address the TV reports) and what each TV returns when you pair it (a pairing key or token) are stored only on your device, in the iOS Keychain. Control Center and Siri use the same data on the same device. The "Delete my data" button in Settings erases all of it in one step; uninstalling the app erases the app's settings too. We cannot see or recover this data.
4. What we process and why
| Data | Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anonymous usage events (app opened, TV found, TV paired, connection failed, purchase screen shown, purchase completed) - never what you type, a TV's name or address | Understand which features work and fix what does not | Legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) | 2 months, then deleted |
| Crash and performance reports - no personal identifier, no TV data | Find and fix crashes | Legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) | 90 days |
| An installation ID and the app version, when the app fetches its settings | Deliver settings such as the minimum supported version | Legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) | Handled by Google under its terms |
| A Firebase user ID, created anonymously when the app first starts, and, only if you sign in with Apple, the email address Apple shares (it can be a private relay address) | Identify your account if you choose to sign in | Contract, Art. 6(1)(b) | Until you delete the account |
| Purchases | Unlock ClearRemote Pro for the person who paid; Apple processes the payment and tells the app on your device what you own | Contract, Art. 6(1)(b) | We keep no payment data; Apple keeps its own records |
5. Sub-processors
We use these providers, each under a data processing agreement, and no others:
| Provider | What it does for us | Data it receives | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase Analytics | Anonymous usage events, with advertising ID collection turned off | Usage events, device model, OS version, country | EU and USA |
| Google Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reports | Stack trace, device model, OS version | EU and USA |
| Google Firebase Remote Config | App settings such as the minimum supported version | An installation ID, app version | EU and USA |
| Google Firebase Authentication | Your user ID and Sign in with Apple | A user ID, the email address Apple shares if you sign in, IP address | EU and USA |
| Cloudflare | Hosting this website | IP address and the page requested, when you visit the site | Cloudflare's global network |
| Apple App Store | Payment, billing, Family Sharing and refunds, as an independent controller | Your Apple Account's payment data, which we never see | Apple's own terms |
6. Transfers outside the EU
Some providers above process data in the USA. Those transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, and otherwise on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. You can ask us for a copy of the safeguards.
7. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can use these rights by writing to clearremote@betheapp.com. We answer within 30 days.
- Access (Art. 15): a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Rectification (Art. 16): correct inaccurate data.
- Erasure (Art. 17): delete your data. Delete the account in the app under Settings → Account, or see Delete your account if you no longer have the app.
- Restriction (Art. 18) and objection (Art. 21): limit or object to processing based on legitimate interest, including the usage events.
- Portability (Art. 20): receive the data we hold in a machine-readable format.
- Complaint (Art. 77): you can complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Children
ClearRemote is not directed at children under 13 (under 16 in the EU where national law sets that age) and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
9. Security
The app connects to TVs that support it over encrypted connections (TLS) and keeps pairing keys in the iOS Keychain, readable only on your device. This site enforces HTTPS with HSTS.
10. Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we update the date at the top, and we tell you in the app before a change that affects what we collect takes effect.
